A special preliminary discussion on arrangements to secure Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from large companies for the Northern Provincial Council was held today – on Friday, 24 July 2026, at the Governor’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
During the discussion, the Governor stated, “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from large companies are one of the potential sources of revenue that should be available to the Provincial Council. However, to date, such funds have been received only from a few companies. Therefore, this process must be properly organized, and swift action should be taken to ensure that these funds are obtained in the future from all eligible large companies,” stressing this to the officials.
It was decided to conduct a thorough study of the procedures followed by other Provincial Councils in obtaining Corporate Social Responsibility funds from companies. Based on those procedures, new and systematic regulations specifically for the Northern Provincial Council will be drafted. Once these regulations are finalized, representatives of the relevant large companies will be invited for discussions, and arrangements will be made to properly obtain CSR funds from them for the Provincial Council’s development activities.
The important discussion was attended by the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, the Secretary to the Governor, the Secretaries of the Provincial Ministries of Agriculture and Local Government of the Northern Province, the Deputy Chief Secretary – Finance, the Provincial Commissioner of Local Government – Northern Province and several other senior officials.
