The friendly volleyball tournament between teams from Jaffna, the Hill Country and Chennai was inaugurated by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, who attended the event as the chief guest.
Organized by the “Jaffna Friends” organization under the theme “Every place is our hometown; everyone is our kin,” (Yaathum oore; Yaavarum Keleer) this friendly volleyball tournament was held today – on Friday 24July 2026, at the Indoor stadium of the University of Jaffna.
The tournament was organized with the aim of promoting goodwill and brotherhood among different regions through sports. Three main teams participated in this friendly series the University of Jaffna volleyball team, the Hill Country Sports volleyball team and the Chennai volleyball team from Tamil Nadu showcasing their sporting talents.
Among the special guests at the event were the Hon. Consul General of the Indian Consulate in Jaffna, Sai Murali; the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, Prof. T. Velnambi; and the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, Emeritus Professor Pon. Balasuntharampillai.
