“When grassroots organizations function effectively, we can witness a remarkable difference in the development of a village” – Hon. Governor

The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, Nagalingam Vethanayahan, stated that the true growth and development of a village depend largely on the effective functioning of the grassroots organizations operating within it.

The Hon. Governor made these remarks while addressing the 15th anniversary celebration of the Ilavalai “Ezhuchiyagam” People Empowerment Centre, where he participated as the chief guest.

Continuing his speech, the Governor further stated:
“The better grassroots organizations function, the more clearly we can observe a remarkable transformation in the development of that village. In this regard, strong leadership and guidance from those heading such organizations are extremely essential.

In today’s context, where social deviations and negative influences are on the rise, the ‘Ezhuchiyagam’ organization, which was established 15 years ago with the aim of preventing such issues and guiding youth towards a positive path, has now progressed through many stages and continues to advance on a path of development. This is highly commendable.

This organization does not operate on a single platform alone. It is actively engaged in various areas including spirituality, social development, livelihood enhancement, and empowerment programs for young children. In particular, the organization is dedicated to improving students’ intellectual abilities and providing the invaluable service of connecting them with arts and society.

When grassroots organizations function effectively, a younger generation with social responsibility, compassion for others, and a spirit of service emerges. Today, we are compelled to face various challenges and revolutionary social conditions. In such circumstances, organizations like these serve as a strong shield in protecting youth from social deviations, developing their personalities, and shaping them into a capable and multidimensional community.

Mr. Jayaratnam Cornelius, who initiated this organization with long-term vision and continues to bear significant responsibility for it while residing abroad, has successfully achieved the noble objective for which it was established. As a person from a neighboring village, I proudly appreciate the continuous growth of the ‘Ezhuchiyagam’ organization.

This organization should continue to serve as an exemplary model for other villages as well.”

Also participating in the event were the patron of Ezhuchiyagam, Rev. Fr. A.V. Silvesterthas; Bishop of the Diocese of Ilavalai, Rev. Fr. J.A. Yesuthas; Chairman of the Valikamam South-West Pradeshiya Sabha, K. Yesithan; General Secretary of Ezhuchiyagam, T. Lakshman; the chairman of the event; as well as a large number of members of the public and students.
