The men’s and women’s football tournament, one of the group events of the 36th National Youth Sports Festival organized by the National Youth Services Council, was inaugurated today – on Saturday, 25 July 2026, at the Duraiappah Stadium in Jaffna by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
Among those who attended the event were the Hon. Mayoress of the Jaffna Municipal Council, Mrs. Mathivathani Vivekanandarasa; the Director General of the National Youth Services Council, Manula Samal Perera; the Northern Province Director, Kamini; the Jaffna Divisional Secretary, Mrs. Sivagami Umakanthan; the Assistant Director of the National Youth Services Council, Vinothini Srimenon; the Coordinator to the Chairman of the Jaffna District Coordinating Committee, S. Kapilan; and the Sri Lanka Representative of the JICA organization.
The event commenced with the welcoming of the guests followed by the hoisting of the flag.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor warmly welcomed the athletes from the other districts who had arrived to participate in the tournament and extended his best wishes for the successful conduct of the sporting event.
