Marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy sector, the foundation stone–laying ceremony for the 50 MW wind power project of HayWind One Limited was held on Thursday (15 January 2026), at the Konnayan residence in Mannar, under the leadership of His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
HayWind One Limited, a subsidiary of Hayleys Fentons and The World of Hayleys group, is implementing this project in collaboration with the Ceylon Electricity Board.
The event was attended by the Hon. Minister of Power and Energy Kumar Jayakody, Hon. Governor of the Northern Province N. Vethanayahan, Hon. Deputy Minister of Power and Energy Mohamed Ilyas Mohamed Ahram, Hon. Deputy Minister of Cooperative Development Upali Samarasinghe, Hon. Members of Parliament M. Jegatheeswaran & S. Thilakanathan, Mannar District Secretary K. Kanakeswaran, senior officials including tri-forces officers, and several other dignitaries.
This 50 MW wind power project being implemented in the Mannar region is expected to add clean energy to the national power supply while serving as a pioneering initiative in promoting environmentally friendly electricity generation.
The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
