Monthly Progress Review Meeting of the Ministry of Health Held Under the Chairmanship of Hon. Governor N. Vethanayahan

The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, has emphasized that the development projects and services implemented by the Northern Provincial Health Department should be further accelerated and brought into use for the benefit of the public.

The monthly progress review meeting of the Ministry of Health, Indigenous Medicine, Probation and Child Care Services of the Northern Province was held today – on Tuesday evening (16 June 2026), at the Governor’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of Hon. Governor N. Vethanayahan. It was during this meeting that the Governor made the above remarks.

At the outset of the discussion, the Governor noted that procurement procedures in the previous year had been delayed until the end of the year. He instructed officials to ensure that procurement activities for projects are completed within the stipulated timeframes so that similar delays do not occur this year.

Subsequently, the progress of programmes being implemented under the Provincial Ministry of Health and the Health Department was reviewed. Practical challenges currently affecting the department’s financial management were discussed in detail, and it was decided that requests for additional financial allocations should be submitted to the Finance Commission with appropriate justifications.

The Hon. Governor also advised that, in the future, separate budgets should be prepared for each sub-department and hospital operating under the Health Department, and that funding requests should be made accordingly. In addition, the progress of projects being implemented under other financial allocations received by the Health Department was examined in detail.

Thereafter, the progress of action plans implemented by the Provincial Department of Indigenous Medicine and the Provincial Department of Probation and Child Care Services was reviewed separately.

Among those who attended this special review meeting were the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, the Secretary to the Governor, the Secretary to the Provincial Ministry of Health, Deputy Chief Secretaries (Administration, Planning, Finance, and Engineering Services), the Provincial Director of Health Services, the Commissioner of the Provincial Department of Probation and Child Care Services, the Commissioner of the Provincial Department of Indigenous Medicine, Regional Directors of Health Services and the Director of the Provincial Buildings Department, among others.
