A special discussion on resolving the disputes between the bus associations operating on Routes 764 and 769 within the Jaffna District and ensuring a well-regulated public transport service was held today – on Friday, 26 June 2026 at the Governor’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
During the meeting, the long-standing disputes between the bus associations operating on the two routes were discussed in detail. Extensive discussions were held on measures to ensure the smooth and orderly operation of transport services in the future, strengthen monitoring mechanisms, and implement strict penalties against buses that violate regulations.
As a follow up, it was decided that the Northern Province Road Passenger Transport Authority would invite representatives of both bus associations for a meeting on Saturday (27 June 2026). Immediate steps will be taken to identify designated operating locations for transport services and install surveillance cameras, among other measures.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, the Chairman of the Road Passenger Transport Authority, the Private Secretary to the Governor and representatives of the bus associations operating on the two routes, along with several other officials.
