Sri Lanka Air Force Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa clarified to the Honorable Governor of Northern Province P.S.M. Charles that it has been decided to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force in Jaffna in March 2024. The discussion was held at the official residence of the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province in Jaffna, high level officials including the Commander of the Sri Lankan Air Force today (13.12.2023).
Honorable Governor of Northern Province P.S.M. Charles, Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, Secretary to Governor M. Nandagopalan, Coordinating Secretary to Governor Niran Mallavarachchi, Education Secretary of Northern Province Partik Niranjan, officials of Regional Office for Jaffna and Kilinochchi Districts of Department of Archeology and senior officials of Sri Lanka Air Force were present in this meeting.
In terms of celebrating the 73rd anniversary of the Sri Lankan Air Force in Jaffna, various activities and suggestions were made in different aspects.
Accordingly, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa said that in view of the 73rd anniversary of the Air Force which will be celebrated on March 2nd, 2024, Gas turbine aircraft engines will be provided for the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna and learning aids will be provided for the students of the University. He also mentioned that it has been decided to reconstruct 73 schools in Jaffna district. Also, the Chief of Air Force informed the Hon’ble Governor that 73,000 Tamil and English language books are also planned to be distributed.
Meanwhile, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa said that activities such as medical camp, dental surgery camp, eye treatment camp, distribution of free spectacles, blood donation camp and distribution of 73 thousand saplings are planned.
In addition, the Air Force Commander informed the Honorable Governor that they are also expecting to organize a cycling race, educational exhibition and evening concert.
Honourable Governor of Northern Province P.S.M. Charles stated these sort of programmes are very important for ethnic harmony and unity. The Honorable Governor also said that more attention should be paid to toilet facilities and drinking water facilities during the reconstruction of schools. Honourable Governor mentioned that steps should be taken to provide industrial training for university students. He also said that steps should be taken to clarify the activities of the three forces and military bases to the students through educational tours.
The Honorable Governor of the Northern Province P.S.M. Charles said that she is happy that it has been decided to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the Sri Lankan Air Force in the Northern Province this time.
