The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province N. Vethanayahan emphasized the need to continuously review the progress of programmes being implemented in the Northern Province, complete the projects within the stipulated time, make efficient use of additional funds provided by line ministries, and provide swift solutions to practical challenges, including shortages of technical personnel.
A discussion between the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province and the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Secretaries of the Provincial Ministries, Deputy Chief Secretaries and Heads of Departments was held today – on Tuesday (01 September 2026), at the Governor’s Secretariat.
During this discussion, detailed consideration was given to preparing a report on programmes undertaken by the Provincial Council in the past, reviewing the progress of projects being implemented this year, and the necessary measures to complete them within the stipulated time.
Attention was also given to arrangements for using additional funds allocated to the Province by line ministries for the intended purposes and efficiently. The need to identify human resource and practical challenges, including shortages of technical personnel encountered in implementing projects, and to promptly take the necessary measures to address them was also emphasized.
During this, discussions were also held on further organizing the service stations and duties of Field Development Officers working under the Office of the Deputy Chief Secretary – Planning. Views were exchanged on the arrangements necessary to strengthen development activities at the field level and improve the monitoring and implementation of projects.
The Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, Secretaries of Provincial Ministries, Deputy Chief Secretaries, Provincial Directors, Commissioners and others participated in this discussion.
