Appointment letters awarded to 12 recruits, including Revenue Inspectors and Laboratory Assistants, at the Governor’s Secretariat

Politicians and corrupt individuals who make a living by deceiving the public are the ones who criticize those who serve with integrity. Therefore, those assuming duties today should not be concerned about such criticism but should continue to provide honest service to the people, emphasized the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

A ceremony to present appointment letters to a total of 12 recruits, 10 Revenue Inspectors for the Provincial Department of Local Government under the Provincial Ministry of Local Government of the Northern Province, and 2 Laboratory Assistants for the Provincial Department of Road Development was held today – on Friday, 26 June 2026, at the Governor’s Secretariat.

Addressing the gathering, the Secretary to the Provincial Ministry of Local Government stated that although 14 Revenue Inspectors had previously been appointed with the approval of the Department of Management Services, 10 of them had since secured other employment more suited to their higher educational qualifications, resulting in the current vacancies being filled. He further noted that, at a time when local authorities are under increasing pressure to boost their revenue, the services of the newly appointed Revenue Inspectors are of great importance.

Speaking to the newly appointed officers thereafter, the Hon. Governor said:

“Women are in no way inferior to men in any field. You should distinguish yourselves in these positions through your abilities and carry out your duties with the highest level of dedication to serving the people.”

The Hon. Governor also spoke about the responsibilities of public officials, observing that:

“In recent times, a mistaken belief has emerged among some public officials that ‘if do nothing, will face no problems, but the more work do, the more problems will encounter.’ As newly appointed officers, you should never think that way. When you serve honestly, those engaged in corruption and those who deceive the public for political gain will inevitably dislike it. To preserve their political existence, they will criticize you. You must pay no attention to such criticism and continue to perform your duties with honesty and courage for the benefit of the people.”

The event was attended by the Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, the Secretary to the Provincial Ministry of Local Government, the Deputy Chief Secretary (Administration), the Commissioner of Local Government – Northern Province, the Provincial Director of the Department of Road Development, the Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Local Government, several other senior officials, and the newly appointed officers.
