Discussion Held Between Representatives of HALO Trust and MAG and Hon. Governor N. Vethanayahan

A special discussion was held this morning – on Monday, 22 June 2026, at the Governor’s Secretariat between representatives of HALO Trust and MAG, organizations engaged in humanitarian demining activities in the Northern Province, and the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

During the meeting, the Governor expressed his sincere gratitude for the invaluable services rendered by these humanitarian demining organizations in the Northern Province. He particularly acknowledged with appreciation the significant role their dedicated efforts have played in facilitating the rapid resettlement of people displaced by the war and in ensuring safe and secure livelihoods for affected communities.

The discussion also focused in detail on the remaining demining activities that need to be carried out in the future to ensure complete safety across the Northern Province, as well as the challenges associated with those efforts.

The Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, Sivapathasuntharam Sathiyaseelan, also participated in this special discussion.

Representing HALO Trust were Hannah Picton, Programme Manager for Sri Lanka; Vithusan Antony, Operations Manager; and A. Arulgunaseelan, Community Liaison Manager.
