I am delighted to extend my heartfelt greetings to all Muslim people living in Sri Lanka, including those in the Northern Province, who, after observing a month of sacred fasting with deep devotion and spiritual discipline, are celebrating the holy festival of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr.
The Ramadan festival is not merely about abstaining from food and drink; it emphasizes noble human values such as patience, sacrifice, brotherhood, and compassion toward fellow human beings by understanding their hardships and extending help. These great values—sharing a portion of what one has with those in need and upholding social justice—are especially essential in today’s context.
In the Northern Province, Muslim communities have long lived in harmony and brotherhood with other communities. The lessons of mutual love and coexistence taught by this Ramadan festival inspire us to transcend ethnic and religious differences and work together as one united society.
At a time when people around the world are facing numerous crises and conflicts, let us collectively pray on this auspicious day for peace and relief for all those affected. In the face of global challenges, supporting one another and acting with unity and brotherhood, rather than leaving anyone isolated, will form a strong foundation for social stability.
May this Ramadan festival bring renewed hope to all of you to overcome challenges and to work together in building a prosperous and peaceful society.
Wishing you all a joyous Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramadan)!
