If investments are to be attracted and encouraged in the Northern Province, the existing administrative processes must be simplified immediately. – Hon. Governor

A special discussion aimed at encouraging investors in the Northern Province and simplifying procedures related to their investment projects was held today – on Tuesday 17 March 2026, at the Governor’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

This discussion, organized in collaboration with the Management Club (TMC) Investment Forum, focused extensively on accelerating investment projects in the Northern Province by digitizing them. It also covered the uploading of investment proposals to the “One Stop Shop Investment Portal (OSSI Portal)”, which is being developed in partnership with the University of Vavuniya, as well as the technical support and structural framework of the portal.

Addressing the meeting, the Governor stated:
“If we are to attract and promote investments in the Northern Province, the administrative processes here must be simplified immediately. Only if services for investors are made administratively convenient will many investors come forward with confidence to invest here. If unnecessary delays and time wastage occur, creating obstacles for them, there is a risk that they will leave without proceeding with investments.

To prevent this, we are currently taking swift steps to integrate the central and provincial government administrative structures in the Northern Province and implement this initiative through a streamlined, digitized mechanism.”

It was also decided during the meeting to officially launch this website towards the end of this month.

The discussion was attended by the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, the Secretary to the Governor, Mrs. Shanthi Bhagheerathan (Vice President of NIS 26 & TMC), Mr. Sakuntharajan (Coordinator for the OSSI Portal from University of Vavuniya) and representatives from the District Secretariats of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu, and Vavuniya, along with several senior officials.
