Disciplinary action has been taken against a driver attached to the Vavuniya Depot of the Sri Lanka Transport Board for using a mobile phone while driving, in violation of passenger transport service regulations. In the future, members of the public may lodge complaints with evidence regarding such violations by drivers by contacting 0719090900, stated Engineer S. Vimaleswaran, Chairman of the Northern Province Road Passenger Transport Authority.
In a statement issued in this regard, he further noted:
A complaint, supported by evidence, was received concerning a driver attached to the Vavuniya Depot of the Sri Lanka Transport Board who was using a mobile phone while operating a bus.
As this action jeopardizes passenger safety, instructions were immediately issued to the Northern Regional Manager of the Sri Lanka Transport Board to take appropriate action. Accordingly, I have been informed that arrangements have been made to subject the relevant driver to a compulsory three days “recovery training” programme.
Whether the bus is privately owned or state-owned, the public must remain vigilant regarding drivers who violate passenger transport service regulations.
If drivers engage in violations such as speaking on a mobile phone while driving, speeding, or driving negligently, members of the public may take photographs or videos and send them via WhatsApp, along with evidence, to *0719090900.* Prompt action will be taken on such complaints without any discrimination.
