The event for the commencement of the work for the year of 2024 was held on 1st of January 2024, Monday at 8.30 am at the premises of Northern Provincial Council , presided by the Chief Secretary of Northern Province Mr.S.M. Saman Bandulasena.
In this event, Chief Secretary of Northern Province, Secretary of Ministry of Local Government, Secretary of Assembly Secretariat, Deputy Chief Secretaries, Commissioners of Department of Motor Traffic & Department of Inland Revenue, Staff Grade Officers and the Officers of the offices in the Premises of Northern Provincial Council participated.
The National flag and Provincial flag were hoisted by the Chief Secretary and the Secretary of Ministry of Local Government of Northern Province respectively and the National Anthem was also played. Following it, oath was taken for the commencement of the public work for the year 2024 by all the officers with the direction of Deputy Chief Secretary Personnel & Training, following the observing 2 minutes silent prayer.
In this event, the Chief Secretary delivered speech on the theme “A Prelate to the stable future”. He highlighted in his speech that the economic growth was negative value in the last year but this year it is positive. He thanked all the officers who served dedicatedly. He added about the matters to be implemented by the Northern Provincial Council to eradicate the poverty in the families in the divisional level. Moreover, he continued that Northern Province was awarded for various field with several awards last year. And he requested the officers to maintain such awards in future too. Further, he highlighted about the development activities, being carried out in the province.
Furthermore, he pointed out that it has to be concern on the activities according to the government policy such as “Eradication of poverty, to minimize the unemployment, to increase the local products, and to maximize the provincial revenue”. And he mentioned that Northern Province will become “The province free from mines in the year 2025”. And he added that measures to be taken for employments for the 1500 women, served for demining service and their income has to be increased. Also, he pointed out the action has to be done for education, job opportunity for the differently abled people. And he wished each and everybody for this new year.
