The M. Kanakaratnam Memorial Bus Stand, established in honour of the memory of M. Kanakaratnam, who served as a respected former member of the Royal Ceylon Navy, was officially opened today – on Tuesday 25 August 2026, at Maruthanarmadam on Kankesanthurai Road.
The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province N. Vethanayahan and Northern Naval Area Commander Rear Admiral M.D.K. Wijewardena participated as chief guests at the event held to open the bus stand established in honour of the memory of M. Kanakaratnam.
This has been established to commemorate the service rendered by M. Kanakaratnam as a respected former member of the Royal Ceylon Navy, and this initiative has also been undertaken to ensure that his memory continues to be preserved among the general public.
The Divisional Secretary of Uduvil, Officer-in-Charge of Chunnakam Police Station, Pradeshiya Sabha member and Grama Niladhari participated in this event.
