Due to persisted high temperature in the recent times infestation of spiral whiteflies (Aleurodicus disperse) on coconut plantation has been observed in an epidemic level in the country. In order to control this insect pest, the parasitoid (Encarsia gaudulapae) is being introduced northern province by Department of Agriculture in on coconut plantations.
In continuation of this event on 15.04.2024 under the arrangements of Mr. P. Atputhachandran Deputy Provincial Director of Agriculture, Vavuniya parasitoid was released in Mahalingam’s coconut field located in Samanankulam as well as in District Agricultural Training Centre, Muruganoor.
Chamintha Premarathna participated as representative of Additional Director of Plant Protection Service of Central Department of Agriculture, Gannoruwa in the release of parasitoid and Coconut Development Board officer and technical officers of Agriculture Department also participated.
