ONE DISH MEAL

The District Agricultural Training Center in Mullaitivu District at Oddusudan of Climate Adapted Irrigation Agriculture Program to address malnutrition in our district. To our District Technical Officers on 11.06.2024 under the theme of “ONE DISH MEAL” with guidance of Provincial Director of Agriculture MRS S.Senthilkumaran, with financial support by CSIAP Special training and demonstrations were given by the course instructor, Kema Kamalathipan.

In this event Mullaitivu District Deputy Provincial Director of Agriculture; Yamini Saseelan Climate Adapted Irrigation Project Officers Agricultural Instructors Technical Officers District Agricultural Training Center Officers N 4 Students Farmers; It is noteworthy that they participated in this event. According to the Deputy Provincial Director of Agriculture, this method of training and demonstration should be conducted in each agricultural teacher division to increase the nutritional level of pre-school and primary school children. Also, farmers and women’s organizations should be observed where nutritional deficiencies are found. He also informed that it should be done.

The method demonstration involved preparing seven nutrient-dense meals using readily available indoor vegetables, grains, and eggs. These dishes were served to everyone as lunch that day. The users and farmers commented that it was delicious. He said that it was found to be nutritious and easily prepared in 45 minutes.

Recipe – 01

  • 1½ kg (12 cups) of cooked country rice.
  • 225 g (2 ½ cups) carrots, peeled and diced.
  • Butternut squash, peeled and diced 225g (2 ½ cups) .
  • Potatoes, peeled and diced 225g (2 ½ cups).
  • 225 grams (2 ½ cups) chopped spinach.
  • Coconut oil 75 grams (5 tablespoons).
  • Powdered salt 10 grams (2 tablespoons).
  • Pepper powder 10 grams (2 table spoons).
  • 25 grams (1 tablespoon) of ground ginger.
  • 25 grams (1 tablespoon) fresh ground ginger.
  • 25 grams (1 tablespoon) fenugreek leaves, chopped
  • Onions 100 gms (10 tablespoons to 1 cup).
  • 2 well beaten eggs.

  • 225 grams (2 ½ cups) of gray plantain, cut into small pieces.

  • Powdered salt 10 grams (2 tablespoons).
  • Pepper powder 10 grams (2 table spoons).
  • 25 grams (1 tablespoon) of ground ginger.
