Northern Province Governor mandate to appoint a committee to look into the problems faced by the youth in the Northern region.

Government officials said that due to certain activities among the youth, school students and teenagers in the Northern Province, various problems are arising at the social level and if these are investigated and resolved, a better social structure can be established. Accepting this matter, the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province Mrs PSM Charles, instructed to appoint a committee to look into the problems arising at the community level due to the inappropriate activities of the youths.
During a special discussion held at the governor’s secretariat between the government officials including the secretaries of the ministries of education, health, women and children’s affairs in the Northern Province and the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province Mrs P.S.M.
The officials of the education department pointed out to the honourable governor that awareness should be given to the parents about student truancy in the Northern Province, and that about 25% of the parents should be given awareness counselling.
Expressing concern about the health condition of the students, the officials of the Northern Province Health Ministry requested that necessary measures should be taken especially regarding the health condition of the schoolgirls and menstrual problems.
Issues such as children being subjected to abuse, domestic violence, and being converted into child labour were also discussed in detail with the Honorable Governor.
The Honorable Governor of the Northern Province Mrs PSM Charles, who investigated the demands of the government officials, appointed a committee comprising the secretaries of the Ministries of Education, Health, Women’s and Children’s Affairs and other high-level officials, and appointed departmental committees and sub-committees for the advice of this committee, at the community level. He directed to immediately investigate the basic problems found and submit recommendations regarding how to find solutions to them.
