Meeting held Between the Advisor to the Hon. Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government and the Hon. Governor

The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, has requested an increase in the current risk allowance provided to officers serving in the Delft area.

A special discussion between Asoka Peiris, Advisor to the Hon. Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government and former senior administrative Service officer and the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province was held today – on Friday evening, 24 April 2026 at the Governor’s Secretariat.

At present, employees serving in Delft receive a risk allowance of Rs. 5,000 with the approval of the Ministry of Public Administration. Considering the current economic situation, it has been requested that this amount be increased. At the same time, appropriate steps should be taken to provide risk allowances to employees working in other offshore islands such as Eluvaithivu, Analaitivu and Nainativu.

The Governor also pointed out existing issues related to the transfers of Development Officers. In particular, central government department employees from the Jaffna District who have been serving for long periods in other districts are unable to return to their home district. It was emphasized that they should be granted transfers.

It was further stressed that long standing vacancies in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, Sri Lanka Planning Service, and Sri Lanka Engineering Service in the Northern Province should be filled promptly.

Responding to the Governor’s requests, Advisor Asoka Peiris stated that he would discuss these matters in detail with the Ministry Secretary and the Hon. Minister and take steps to obtain favorable solutions.

Also present at the discussion were the Secretary to the Governor Sivapathasundaram Sathiyaseelan, Coordinator to the Jaffna District Coordinating Committee Chairman S. Kapilan, and the Private Secretary to the Governor S. Srivageesan.
