A special meeting with the Executives of Northern Province was held on 02nd June 2022 under the chairmanship of Hon. Governor of Northern Province Jeevan Thiagarajah at the Auditorium of the Chief Secretary’s Secretariat, Kaithady.
The sector-wise development activities were discussed in detail with the various data and information and the necessities of upgrading and improving the ongoing development activities implemented by the line ministries and Provincial ministries and departments in Northern Province were also discussed. Hon. Governor briefed on the present status of every sector. Especially, projects and programs for upgrading the sectors, industrial guidance on investment promotion programs, educational activities for promoting results based at schools in NP, and career guidance under NVQ courses for school dropouts, and children development at the community level were specified by the Hon. Governor.
On the request of Hon. Governor, the Director of Urban Development Authority (UDA) briefed the Investment Opportunities for Northern Province, and some important development activities carried out by UDA in the province were briefly explained by the Assistant Secretary of UDA with relevant facts.
Hon. Governor indicated the necessity of promoting the agriculture and inland fisheries sectors and small and medium entrepreneurship. The health sector with promoting curative services through indigenous departments, facilities and promotional programs for disabled persons and women headed families, security and safety measures for women and adults, and various important matters were also addressed at this meeting.
The Chief Secretary, Northern Province, Provincial Ministries’ Secretaries, Heads of Departments, District Secretary and Divisional Secretaries of Jaffna District, Security Forces of Jaffna Region, Academics of Jaffna University, and Authorities of executive-level of various departments and institutions within the Jaffna District have attended this meeting. Some executives of out-districts (Mannar, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya) also joined the meeting via zoom.
Hon. Governor concluded the presentation by expressing effective services from each sector. The Chief Secretary, Northern Province requested all the officials to submit their views and opinions on the presented affairs.
