Aiming to improve the sports sector in Jaffna district, a discussion on selecting a suitable site for the playground was held on 15 December 2020 at 2.30 pm under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Governor of the Northern Province, Mrs. BSM Charles.
The discussion was attended by the Coordinating Secretary to the Governor, Assistant Secretary, Chairman of Tourism Bureau, Additional Government Agent (Land), Assistant Commissioner (Land), Divisional Secretaries of Kopay, Nallur and Jaffna DS Divisions, Jaffna Municipal Commissioner, and Sports Sector Officials and other stakeholders.
There was a detailed discussion on setting up a playground in Jaffna district and thereby improving tourism and increasing revenue streams. Governor also advised the concerned parties to confirm the ownership of the land identified in the Chemmani area and then prepare an action plan and obtain approval from the relevant departments to implement the project.
Further, it was emphasized that disasters should not take place in the name of development and the authorities were instructed to take the next steps after considering the environmental factors and their pros and cons.
