A special discussion regarding the issues faced by Tax Assessors and Tax Officers serving under the Northern Province Revenue Department was held this morning – on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at the Governor’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
During the discussion, detailed attention was given to the court order relating to the Scheme of Service for Tax Assessors and Tax Officers. As an observation report is required on how a new Scheme of Service for the Northern Province should be formulated, the Hon. Governor instructed the relevant authorities to immediately consult the concerned departments and take appropriate decisions on the matter.
The meeting also discussed increasing the allowances provided to Tax Officers and Tax Assessors, as well as other administrative challenges they encounter in carrying out their day-to-day duties.
The special discussion was attended by the Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, the Deputy Commissioner of the Northern Province Revenue Department, Tax Assessors, Tax Officers, and several other officials.
