A discussion on controlling weedy rice, which has caused a significant impact on paddy cultivation in the Northern Province, was held on 08/01/2026 at the District Agricultural Training Centre, Kilinochchi, under the organization of the Northern Provincial Department of Agriculture.
The discussion was held under the chairmanship of the Provincial Director of Agriculture, with the participation of officials from the Provincial and Central Departments of Agriculture, the Irrigation Department, the Department of Agrarian Development, lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Jaffna, Agricultural Instructors, and Technical Assistants, among others.
During the discussion, methods and strategies for jointly controlling weedy rice in the upcoming cultivation seasons were discussed.
