Based on the results of the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination, the Northern Province has ranked first nationally in the percentage of students qualifying for university admission.

According to the results of the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination released by the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka, the Northern Province has achieved first place at the national level in terms of the percentage of students eligible for university entrance. Compared to previous years, the province has reached an exceptionally high level of academic achievement this time.

Out of the total number of candidates (both school and private candidates) who sat for the examination from the Northern Province, 9,191 students have qualified for university admission. This represents 65.19% of the total candidates. As a result, the Northern Province has proudly secured first place among all provinces at the national level.

Furthermore, the province has ranked first nationally in the percentage of students qualifying for university admission from the Biological Science and Arts streams, and fifth place nationally in the Physical Science and Commerce streams.

In the 2024 Advanced Level Examination, the Northern Province had ranked second nationally in terms of the percentage of students qualifying for university admission. This year, it has further improved its performance and advanced to first place. However, based on the results of school candidates alone, the province has secured third place at the national level.

In addition, 534 students from the province have achieved the highest distinction of ‘3A’ (three A passes) in all subjects this year, which accounts for 3.79% of the total candidates. Based on the percentage of students achieving 3A results, the Northern Province has also secured first place nationally, marking yet another achievement.
