A special cycling tour is set to take place under the themes “Let’s Put an End to Drugs” and “Cycling for Health,” organized by the Northern Province Tourism Bureau.

Dr. J. Vivekananthan, Chairman of the Northern Province Tourism Bureau, stated that a special cycling event, titled “Sail & Ride – Tour of Jaffna”, will be held in Jaffna. The initiative aims to further strengthen the long-standing friendship between Sri Lanka and India, while also promoting and expanding the tourism industry in the Northern Province. The event will feature participation from the “Team Bison” cycling group visiting from Tamil Nadu, India.

The tour is organized with the dual objective of raising awareness about eliminating drug use and promoting physical health through increased bicycle usage. Local cycling groups will also join the event to support this initiative.

The visiting team from Tamil Nadu is scheduled to arrive today – on Thursday, 02 April 2026, at 2:00 PM at Kankesanthurai Harbour. Following this, the cycling journey will officially commence tomorrow – on Friday, 03 April 2026, at 9:00 AM from Thiruvalluvar Cultural Hall in Jaffna, heading towards Kurikadduvan. On the same day, participants will also attend special religious pooja ceremonies at the Nagapooshani Amman Temple in Nainativu.

A special felicitation event honoring the Indian team will be held the day after tomorrow – on Saturday, 04 April 2026, at 7:00 PM at Valampuri Hotel in Jaffna.

The Northern Province Tourism Bureau has made all necessary arrangements for this event.
