The monthly review meeting assessing the progress of development activities and projects for the year 2026 under the Ministry of Health, Indigenous Medicine, Probation and Childcare Services of the Northern Province was held today – onTuesday (04 August 2026), at the Governor’s Secretariat, under the chairmanship of Hon. Governor N. Vethanayahan.
The meeting discussed in detail the 2026 development plans, utilization of financial allocations, progress of construction works, implementation of new projects, human resource management, and challenges ahead, in respect of the Provincial Department of Health Services, the Provincial Department of Indigenous Medicine, and the Provincial Department of Probation and Childcare Services operating under the Ministry of Health.
It was noted that 306 development projects with a total allocation of Rs. 2,117 million are being implemented under the Provincial Department of Health Services, and a detailed review was conducted on the progress of ongoing and new construction works, maintenance activities, and health infrastructure improvement measures.
The progress of projects under the Department of Indigenous Medicine, including hospital infrastructure improvement, medical equipment facilities, human resource development, and health awareness programmes, was reviewed; 78 development projects are being carried out under an allocation of Rs. 290.5 million.
The progress of activities under the Department of Probation and Childcare Services, including child protection, access to education, improvement of facilities at children’s homes, new building construction, and administrative capacity development, was also reviewed. For this purpose, 36 development projects are being implemented under an allocation of Rs. 310 million.
The Governor advised and guided officials to expedite the measures necessary to complete projects within the stipulated timeframes, to make full and effective use of financial allocations, and to further strengthen services that directly benefit the public.
He further emphasized the need to promptly identify and resolve obstacles encountered in project implementation, and to prioritize strengthening inter-departmental coordination in order to enhance the quality and efficiency of service delivery.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, the Secretary to the Governor, the Secretary of the Provincial Ministry of Health, the Deputy Chief Secretaries (Administration, Planning, Finance and Engineering Services), the Provincial Director of Health Services, the Commissioner of the Department of Indigenous Medicine, the Commissioner of the Department of Probation and Childcare Services, the Director of the Provincial Department of Buildings, Regional Directors of Health Services and other officials.
