The sectoral progress review meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Northern Province was held under the chairmanship of the Honorable Governor.

Ahead of the heavy rains expected at the end of the coming year, the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, has urged the relevant departmental officials to expedite and complete all development projects being implemented in the province.

The sectoral progress review meeting of the Northern Province Ministry of Agriculture, Agrarian Services, Livestock Development, Irrigation, Inland Fisheries, Water Supply and Environment was held today (17.06.2026), Wednesday, at the Governor’s Secretariat. It was on this occasion that the Governor made the above statement.

At this meeting, the Honorable Governor, who gave special instructions to the officials, stated firmly: “Heavy rainfall is expected toward the end of this year. Therefore, all departments must demonstrate a strong commitment to implementing and completing the plans before the rainy season begins.”

Subsequently, the progress of the decisions taken at the previous meeting was discussed in detail, and the Governor also provided appropriate instructions to expedite their implementation.

Subsequently, the progress of the action plans of the Ministry of Agriculture and its affiliated agencies—the Freshwater Fisheries Division, the Department of Irrigation, the Department of Animal Production and Health, and the Department of Agriculture—were reviewed separately.

During this, officials pointed out the practical problems encountered in the field when implementing development projects and the shortages of personnel. After examining these matters in detail, the Governor provided appropriate advice and guidance for resolving those issues and ensuring the smooth continuation of the programs.

In this special review meeting, the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, the Governor’s Secretary, the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Deputy Chief Secretaries (Administration, Planning, Finance and Engineering), and Provincial Directors, among others, participated.
