‘Sisu Seriya’ School Bus Service Launched on the Vavuniya–Cheddikulam Route to Ensure Safe and Uninterrupted Travel for School Students

The inauguration of the “Sisu Seriya” school bus service, which is being implemented to ensure the safe transportation of school students, was held yesterday – on Monday (15 June 2026), at the Vavuniya Bus Stand.

The event was attended by the Hon. Upali Samarasinghe, Deputy Minister of Cooperative Development and Chairman of the District Coordination Committee for the Vanni Electoral District. During the event, a special transportation service for students on the Vavuniya – Cheddikulam route was officially launched.

The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Engineer S. Vimaleswaran, Chairman of the Northern Province Road Passenger Transport Authority. Members of Parliament Hon. M. Jegatheeswaran and Hon. S. Thilakanathan, along with school students, teachers, and public, also participated in the event.

Speaking on the launch of the service, Engineer S. Vimaleswaran, Chairman of the Northern Province Road Passenger Transport Authority, stated:
“Ensuring the safe and uninterrupted travel of school students is one of our key responsibilities. It is with this objective that the ‘Sisu Seriya’ bus service has been launched today on the Vavuniya – Cheddikulam route. Taking into consideration the welfare of students, this special transportation service will soon be introduced across all other areas of the Northern Province. The Road Passenger Transport Authority is currently undertaking the necessary plans and arrangements for this purpose.”

It is noteworthy that this programme is expected to be expanded throughout the Northern Province in order to support students’ educational activities and reduce the transportation burden on parents.
