A special meeting between the representatives of the Northern Province of the Sri Lanka Technical Service Union and the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, took place today – on Monday 09 March 2026, in the evening at the Governor’s Secretariat.
During this meeting, a detailed review was conducted regarding the current progress of the matters discussed in the conversation with the Governor in February 2025.
In particular, attention was focused on issues such as the transport allowances for technical officers, transfers, increasing the number of mechanical equipment laboratories in the province, and establishing and implementing a ‘technical audit’ system.
Furthermore, while various development works are to be carried out in the Northern Province through multiple funding sources, the union representatives clarified to the Governor the need to ensure the quality and quantitative standards of these works. They also presented the union’s stands on several key matters during the discussion.
Subsequently, the professional requests put forward by the technical officers were examined in the meeting. In this regard, the Deputy Chief Secretary – Engineering of the Northern Province presented some important recommendations. The Hon. Governor instructed the relevant officials to expeditiously examine these recommendations and submit a report on them to him promptly.
This discussion was attended by the Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, Secretaries of Ministries, Deputy Chief Secretaries, and representatives of the union.
