Development projects implemented in the Northern Province should be reviewed annually – Hon. Governor N. Vethanayahan emphasizes

During a high-level discussion on the Northern Province’s development plans for the year 2026, it was emphasized that a systematic study and evaluation are essential to assess what kind of changes are being brought about in the standard of living of the general public through projects implemented using the financial allocations provided to the Northern Province.

A special discussion on development project proposals for the year 2026 was held today – on Saturday, 27 December 2025, in the evening at the Governor’s Secretariat – Northern Province.

During this discussion, detailed deliberations were held on the development activities planned for implementation in 2026 by the five ministries of the Northern Province and their respective departments, as well as on the public requests presented at divisional and district coordination committee meetings.

Expressing his views on this occasion, the Hon. Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources and Chairman of the Jaffna – Kilinochchi District Coordination Committees, R. Chandrasekar, stated that evaluating the constructive changes occurring in people’s livelihoods through projects implemented with allocated funds is a necessity of the time.

Subsequently, the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, stressed that as various projects are implemented every year, a systematic review of these projects should be carried out annually.

Each project was discussed in detail during this session.

Deputy Minister of Cooperative Services and Chairman of the Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Mannar District Coordination Committees, Upali Samarasinghe; Hon. Members of Parliament and Divisional Coordination Committee Chairmen M. Jegatheeswaran, S. Thilaganathan, S. Siribavanantharajah, and J. Rajeevan; as well as Secretaries of the Northern Provincial ministries, Deputy Chief Secretaries, and Heads of Departments.
