The Gynecology Ward services at the Maternity and Gynecology Care Specialty Center, located within the Kilinochchi District Hospital complex, were officially inaugurated by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province on the morning of Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Addressing concerns about unnecessary rumors regarding the Maternity and Gynecology Care Specialty Center, which was established with financial assistance from the Government of the Netherlands, the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, Mr. N. Vethanayahan, stated that steps are being taken to fully operationalize the hospital. He noted that today’s event marks a significant step in that direction.
In his address, the Governor emphasized that the goal is to fully operationalize the hospital. He stated, “We are continuously working to secure approval for the necessary staffing. I extend my gratitude and appreciation to the Kilinochchi District Hospital administration for their efforts in initiating operations. We will continue to provide the necessary support to sustain these operations.”
The Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Mrs. Thanuja Murugesan, in her address, described the event as a happiest occasion. She mentioned that continuous requests have been made to the Department of Management Services to approve the required staffing for the hospital. “We have also invited them to visit the facility in person. I am confident that positive steps will be taken soon,” she added.
The event was attended by the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Mrs. Thanuja Murugesan; the Secretary of the Northern Province Ministry of Health, Mrs. P. Jayarani; the Director of Regional Health Services for Kilinochchi District, Asela; the Superintendent of Kilinochchi District Hospital, Prabath; doctors, nurses, officials, and members of the Patients’ Welfare Association.
It is also noteworthy that the In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) unit at the Maternity and Gynecology Care Specialty Center has already commenced operations.
