“Steps to raise Women’s Representation in NPC Offices to 50 per cent” – Governor says on Pongal Festival Day

Thai Pongal, the distinctive festival of Tamils was celebrated at the Northern Province Governor’s Secretariat on January 15, 2019, headed by Governor Suren Raghavan.

Governor celebrated the festival ceremoniously with the staff of Governor’s Secretariat by cooking ‘pongal’ in sunlight.

Speaking to the staff, Governor pointed out that women in the Northern Province are mostly teachers and nurses. He expected to increase the representation of women in all government offices in the north at 50 percent by 2020 and 2021 and said that the measures would be commenced immediately.

Secretary to the Governor L.Ilaangovan also participated in this event.

At the same time, the Governor formally inaugurated the annual cultural procession organized by the Old Boys’ Association of Jaffna Hindu College to mark the Thai Pongal festival.
