Jaffna. Disabled Persons’ Day organized by the Association for the Visually Handicapped

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was organized by the Jaffna Association for the Visually Handicapped. The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vedhanayagan, stated that each person with a disability possesses unique talents that often surpass those of others, and these talents should be appreciated and encouraged. He also emphasized that people with disabilities are often kinder than others.
The event was held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Urelu N.K. Hall. The Governor, who attended as the chief guest and delivered a speech, further remarked that today's youth often seek easy work opportunities abroad without a desire to work hard. In contrast, the disabled people in our province demonstrate great resilience, working diligently to become self-reliant.
The Governor assured that we would focus on addressing the needs of differently-abled individuals. He acknowledged that some had requested electricity, and steps would be taken to provide it. Additionally, the Governor promised that efforts would be made to ensure people with disabilities have access to government services everywhere.
