District Coordinating Committee Meeting of Kilinochchi District was held on 17th December 2020 at 2.00 pm at the District Secretariat Auditorium. The discussion was attended by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province Mrs. PSM Charles, District Coordinating Chairman and Minister of Fisheries Hon. Douglas Devananda, District Government Agent, District Parliamentarians, Heads of Departments, Divisional Secretaries, Pradeshiya Members, and Departmental Officers.
The discussion focused on the issues in Agriculture, Education, Health, Local Government, Cooperatives, and Road Development, Electricity, Water Resources sectors, the current situation of Covid-19 epidemic and development activities.
Hon. Governor said that identifying suitable locations for pastures and involving green grass cultivation would lead to unrestricted access to food for livestock and the creation of new employment opportunities.
She also said all the activities should be carried out in accordance with the proper plans and do not construct any buildings that are not essential. She also urged the relevant authorities to provide toilets and laboratories for schools.
She also said that considering the current Covid-19 epidemic situation, all public markets in the Northern Province would be closed until further notice and businesses would be allowed to engage in streets or mobile sales in view of customer needs and safety.
The shortage of teachers and lack of building requirements in the education sector were discussed in detail. It was decided to divide the Kilinochchi Education Zone into two zones. It is noteworthy that the decision was taken to divide the Karachi-Poonakary areas into one zone and the Kandawalai-Pallai areas into another zone.
