In accordance with a request put forward by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, a preparatory discussion regarding the housing project to be implemented by the London Sri Kanakathurkkai Amman Temple Trust in the Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts was held at the Governor’s Secretariat this evening – on Thursday (03 September 2026).
In accordance with the request directly put forward by the Governor to the London Sri Kanakathurkkai Amman Temple Trust regarding the housing needs of the Northern Province, it has been planned to construct a total of 30 houses in the first phase of this project, with 15 houses each in the Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts.
In the Jaffna District, this project will commence in the Kopay Divisional Secretariat Division. Suitable beneficiaries from landless families living below the poverty line will be selected and houses will be constructed and provided to them.
The importance of providing sustainable housing facilities through the humanitarian contribution of the diaspora community to families living with housing needs in the Northern Province was also highlighted during the discussion.
The technical and administrative arrangements required to implement this project within the stipulated timeframe, the progress of construction work, and matters including coordination among the relevant institutions were also discussed.
The Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, Additional District Secretary of Jaffna District, Divisional Secretary of Kopay, founder of the London Sri Kanakathurkkai Amman Temple Trust Paramanathan and engineers who will undertake the housing project, among others, participated in this discussion.
