In the current situation where chemicals and inorganic substances are globally mixed with all the types of agricultural products and in the situation where adverse effects arising from it are rapidly increasing, it is a great achievement that one of our province’s young men has introduced liquid fertilizers, plant-based pesticides, and insect repellents. The Northern Province’s Hon. Governor has stated our provincial administration will completely cooperate with his continuous endeavors by appreciating him on behalf of the Northern Province public.
The inauguration ceremony for the new building, as well as the introduction of organic agricultural inputs of Athen Agriculture Institution, which is located at Puthukkudiyiruppu, Mullaitivu, was started on Tuesday (19th May 2026). The honorable governor mentioned this while participating as chief guest at this event.
He further stated at this event, that Sometimes our endeavors will end up with failures. We do not worry for those failure. Acutally those are not failures. But the true failures are when we completely wind up our endeavors.
This guy has achieved this much only with his relentless effort beyond overcoming so many challenges. It is not an easy matter to produce the natural insect repellents, pesticides, and organic fertilizers in the easiest way in liquid form.
Today, the influence of mafias has spread into every aspect of society. These mafias relentlessly criticize anyone who tries to do good. This is because people with tainted hands — whether they are officials or politicians — join forces with such groups and attempt to create a false impression about those who work for the betterment of society.
Therefore, certain mafia groups will surely try to disrupt or hinder this noble effort of yours as well. You must overcome those obstacles and succeed. Gunasekaram Rajitharan stands as someone who is carrying out these productions in a way that fulfills our expectations of creating young farmers and young entrepreneurs. We must continue to encourage and strengthen people like him.
Our Northern Province should become a model province in natural agricultural production. For that, entrepreneurs like him must further expand their production activities. I extend my best wishes for him to grow into a successful entrepreneur in the future, he said.
For this young man’s organic farming initiative, the Northern Province Department of Agriculture has continuously provided various forms of assistance through the Office of the Deputy Director of Agriculture in Mullaitivu District.
In 2021, under a 50 percent subsidy scheme, financial assistance amounting to 600,000 rupees was provided for the establishment of an organic pesticide shed. In addition, a grinding machine for extracting leaf extracts and 2,000 bottles for packaging the pesticides were also supplied. Furthermore, plant stem cuttings required for pesticide production were provided by the department.
Moreover, in 2025, under the provincial allocated fund and through the organic production project, an additional 650 bottles were provided in response to his request. It is also noteworthy that his products have been experimentally distributed and used by some farmers in the model plots of the Department of Agriculture.
