The 18th Northern Province Sports Festival, organized by the Northern Province Department of Sports, was held over two days at the Jaffna Durayappah Stadium and successfully concluded yesterday – on Sunday 20 September 2026.
At the final day event of this sports festival, Hon. Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources R. Chandrasekhar participated as the Chief Guest and presented prizes to the victorious athletes and teams.
Athletes from all five districts of the Northern Province participated in various competitions at this sports festival and showcased their talents.
Based on the overall results of the competitions, Jaffna District secured first place, Vavuniya District secured second place and Mannar District secured third place.
The Chief Secretary of the Northern Province Mrs. Thanuja Murugesan, the Secretary of the Provincial Ministry of Education of the Northern Province M. Patrick Diranjan and Provincial Director of the Northern Province Department of Sports G. Ehanthan also participated in the event.
