The “Deiveega Sugaanubavam – 12” event, which brought peace of mind and spiritual feeling through music, was held successfully, graced by the participation of Hon. Governor N. Vethanayahan of the Northern Province.
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Unit of the Provincial Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs of Northern Province in collaboration with the Consulate General of India in Jaffna, in connection with the Nallur Great Festival, the “Deiveega Sugaanubavam – 12” musical event was held successfully last night – on Tuesday (08 September 2026), at the Saivapprakasa College premises in Kantharmadam.
The event was held in a manner that combined spiritual feeling and musical charming through music and art performances, and a variety of musical and dance items were presented during the occasion.
Following the welcoming of guests, the programme included the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu rendered by the Nallur Sarangam Music Association, a welcome dance by students of Nallur Narthana Shetra, a presidential address, dance performances by students of the University of Jaffna’s Dance Department, a special guest address, a chief guest address, and flute music and other artistic performances.
The event was chaired by M. Patrick Diranjan, Secretary of the Northern Province Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs, with Hon. Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources R. Chandrasekhar, Hon. Governor N. Vethanayahan of the Northern Province and Consul General Sai Murali of the Consulate General of India in Jaffna attending as chief guests. Mrs. Thanuja Murugesan, Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, attended as a special guest.
A highlight of the event was a flute recital by renowned flautist Athul Kumar and a vocal performance by celebrated singer and Kalaimamani awardee Saratha Raghav. Their musical performances provided attendees with a delightful musical experience.
The fact that the “Deiveega Sugaanubavam” event, held continuously over the years, has now reached its twelfth year reflects the unique place it has come to occupy in the musical and cultural life of Jaffna, and the sustained appreciation it continues to receive.
Held by combining music and art with the spiritual atmosphere of the Nallur Great Festival, this event stood as a notable occasion reflecting both the continuity of the Northern Province’s artistic and cultural events and the closeness of India – Sri Lanka artistic and cultural relations.
