The Northern Governor requested the Prime Minister to obtain Cabinet approval for granting permanent appointments to 388 persons who are working on temporary basis in Northern Province

The Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, P.S.M. Charles, requested Honorable Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to obtain Cabinet approval for granting permanent appointment to 388 persons serving on temporary, substitute, casual and daily wage basis in the  Northern Province. The meeting was held today (07.03.2024) at the Prime Minister’s office located in the Parliament.

The Honorable Governor stated that 67 people working in the Northern Province Ministry of Agriculture and 321 people working in the units under the Ministry of Local Government should be given permanent appointments.

The Hon’ble Governor stated to the Prime Minister that permanent appointments should be given to the people attached to the emergency and essential services, and their experience, skills, and knowledge will be able to face the emergencies that may occur in the future.

The Hon’ble Governor has also submitted a request letter containing their list of names to the Prime Minister who said that those temporarily inducted in the service are waiting to get permanent appointments. The Hon’ble Governor requested the Prime Minister to obtain Cabinet approval for granting permanent appointments to them under the special scheme.

At the same time, the Honorable Governor also said that the appointments of  Primary Leval given based on the 100,000  employment scheme have not been filled in the Northern Province. She also mentioned that because of this, there are vacancies for young people in the ministries and departments in the Northern Province. The Honorable Governor also requested the Prime Minister to support filling these gaps to provide a better public service.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, who received the request letter from the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, promised to respond positively to the subject matters soon.
