During an official visit to the Jaffna District, the Hon. Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Prof. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, met with the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, for discussions at the Governor’s Secretariat.
At the meeting, the Governor made several special requests to the Minister, particularly concerning the recruitment of Cultural Officers through the Central Government and the need to address the requirements of cultural institutions across the Northern Province.
These special requests were made when the Hon. Minister, who was on an official visit to the Jaffna District on Thursday, 23 July 2026, called on the Governor at the Governor’s Secretariat, Northern Province.
The discussion also focused on a range of important matters relating to the future development of cultural and archaeological initiatives in the Northern Province, as well as measures to address the challenges currently affecting the implementation of ongoing programmes.
Among those present at the meeting were the Director General of the Department of Archaeology, the Secretary to the Governor, the Private Secretary to the Governor and the Coordinator to the Chairman of the Jaffna District Coordinating Committee, along with several other officials.
