A special coordination meeting for the districts of Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Mannar was held today(05.01.2024) at the Vavuniya Municipal Council Hall under the leadership of His Excellency President Ranil Wickramasinghe. The Honorable Governor of Northern Province P.S.M. Charles, Secretary to the President, Chief Secretary of Northern Province, Members of Parliament, Government Agent of the three districts, Divisional Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and government officials attended the meeting.
The Government Agent of the three districts and people’s representatives clarified about the future plans for the districts of Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Mannar and the challenges faced in the districts.
The Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, P.S.M. Charles, said that unlike in the past, the Northern Province has taken the lead based on the results of the regular, high-quality examinations that have finally been released. The Honorable Governor also said that the provincial health department is working with maximum efforts in view of shortage of manpower.
His Excellency the President said that his aim is to take the Northern Province towards development like other provinces. He also said that steps have been taken to make Jaffna an educational Center.
The President said that since the financial allocations have been advanced at the provincial level, they should be fully utilized. The President also said that he will propose action plans with the Honorable Governor for the development of the province. The President also said that steps will be taken to develop the Northern Province as a renewable energy producing zone.
