With the view of making aware the potentials and benefits of green energy generation in Northern Province using wind and solar power, Regional Office – Kilinochchi of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka conducted a knowledge sharing session for stakeholders in Northern governor of the Northern Province S. M. Charles graced the session as Chief Guest and inaugurated it by making a keynote address.
During her speech, referring to the well-established energy sector in western countries, she stated that a reduction in the price of energy will provide numerous benefits to a country like Sri Lanka. Almost all prices of goods will fall, investors will be attracted due to the reduction in the cost of production and ultimately, the country’s competitiveness will rise in the international market.
On the other hand, this will facilitate to diminish the outflow of foreign exchange by reducing the import of petroleum products for energy generation. Ultimately, this initiative will support to maintain internal and external stability of Sri Lankan Rupee, she further maintained.
While appreciating the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Ceylon Electricity Board and the University of Jaffna for this timely and collective initiative, she emphasized the importance of continuous research and other supports to be given to the green energy sector.
