Governor Urges Adherence to Regulations for School Students’ Hair Styling

In a meeting on January 24, 2025, the Honourable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayakan, highlighted the importance of adhering to regulations concerning school students’ hair styling. The discussion, held at the Governor’s Secretariat, involved the Northern Province Beauty Salon Association, which raised concerns about non-compliance with established guidelines by certain beauty salons.

The association reported that some salons were not following the correct operating hours, even on holidays, and that there were instances of unprofessional behaviour and illegal activities occurring. The Governor strongly condemned these actions, emphasizing that such practices would not be tolerated. He announced plans to convene a meeting with local government officials, health authorities, and law enforcement to ensure better enforcement of these regulations.

Furthermore, the beauty salon association expressed frustration over delays in receiving business licenses, despite paying their annual fees to local councils. The Governor assured them that steps would be taken to address the issue.

The association also expressed concerns about the impact of military-run salons in Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Kilinochchi on their livelihoods. In response, the Governor promised to discuss the matter with the Army Commander to seek a solution.

This meeting brought together representatives from various districts and associations to discuss pressing issues facing the beauty salon industry in the Northern Province.
