A visit to historical fame Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa
Governor Dr. Suren Raghavan, who visited Kandy for the first time after swearing in as the Governor of Northern Province, met the Maha Nayaga Theros of Buddhist Chapters on 15th February 2019.
He visited Asgiriya Vihara and met the Maha Nayaka of the Asgiri Chapter most ven. Varakagoda Sri Gnanasara Thera and received blessing.
He also met the Maha Nayaka of the Malwathu Chapter Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and received blessing.
He explained to the Maha Nayakas about the activities that are being carried out by him in the province. He pointed out that Northern Province is far behind in development and the people of Northern Province are economically and mentally weakened. He is engaged in the programmes to recover them from the issues with the support of President Maithripala Sirisena. The government also gives generous support for the activities. He requested the Maha Nayakas to provide support for his activities.
He also explained to the Maha Nayakas about the Buddhist Conference that will be held in Vavuniya on the 29th of March.
Maha Nayakas appreciated the Governor and pointed out that President Maithripala Sirisena had appointed a well-educated person as a Governor of Northern Province. They got to know that the Governor differs from other politicians and he gives priorities to the people’s basic issues.
In the meanwhile, the Governor visited the Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa and worshiped the Sacred Tooth Relic and received blessings. Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela welcomed the Governor.
Secretary to the Governor Mr.L.Illangovan and Chief Secretary of Northern Province A.Pathinathan also accompanied the Governor.
