The first official meeting of the Trust Fund Board established with cabinet approval to carry out its future activities under proper administration as planned, was held today (10.10.2026), Saturday morning at the Jaffna Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre.
Members of the Trust Fund Board have signed the documents marking the establishment on 18th on last September. Accordingly, the board held its first meeting today.
The ex-officio members, Hon. Governor of Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, Hon. Mayor of Municipal Council, Mathivathani Vivekannatharasa and the Commissioner of Municipal Council, D. C Aravintharajah attended the meeting in person. Another ex-officio member, the Secretary of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs attended the meeting online.
Meanwhile, the sectorial members, Mrs. Santhini Sivanesan/ Arts and Culture, Kanapathipillai Prabaharan/ Legal, Rathnavelupillai Mayoorathanathan/ Commerce and Kosalai Mathan/ Education also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the board discussed several matters in detail, including procedures for administering the Jaffna Cultural Centre in the future and activities to be carried forward in accordance with the Trust Fund Board’s documents.
Further, the Board members received an explanation of the architecture and features of the Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre, and subsequently visited several parts of the Centre.
