First DCC Meeting for Kilinochchi District for the year 2021 was held

First District Coordinating Committee Meeting for Kilinochchi District for the year 2021 was held on 05 March 2021 at 9.30 am at the Kilinochchi District Secretariat Auditorium. Roobavathi Ketheeswaran presided over the meeting.

Governor of the Northern Province and the Co-Chairman of the Coordinating Committee, Hon. Mrs. PSM Charles also attended the meeting. Minister of Fisheries Hon. Douglas Devananda, Parliamentarian Hon. S.Sritharan, Hon.M.A.Sumanthiran, Hon.K.Ponnampalam, Hon.S.Kajenthiran, Coordinating Secretary to the Governor, Secretaries of Provincial Ministries, Police and Tri-Forces Officials, and other relevant officials also attended this meeting.

First, they reviewed the last meeting report. Follow-ups of the last meeting were discussed in detail. The plans to be approved by DCC were submitted at this meeting. The proposal to set up a guest house at Gautharimunai was submitted. The Hon. Governor instructed the relevant authorities to form a committee headed by the District Secretary to examine the project fully and to look into environmental issues and then submit a report regarding this.

The project to provide drinking water to the Kilinochchi district was also explored. While discussing the agriculture sector, the Hon. Governor directed the Agriculture Department officials to prepare and submit to her a report on the reasons for the decline in paddy production in the Kilinochchi district and the details of affected farmers.

The discussion also focused on illegal sand excavation and the massive environmental issues due to the sand excavation.

They also discussed the issues in the various sectors such as livestock development, land, road development, fisheries, industries, health, and education.
