C-Arm Machine Worth Rs. 28 Million to the Mullaitivu District General Hospital

C-Arm machine worth Rs. 28 million has been donated to the Mullaitivu District General Hospital by the “Abayam Foundation”. On the instructions of Hon. N. Vethanayahan, the Governor of Northern Province , an import tax of Rs. 4.2 million was provided from the Specified Development Grant of the Northern Provincial Council to bring the machine into the country.

The official handover event took place today (02.10.2026) at the hospital premises following a request made to the Abayam Foundation. Hon. N. Vethanayahan, Governor of Northern Province attended the event and officially handed over the equipment.

For the past 17 years, due to the unavailability of a C-Arm machine at the hospital, patients needing orthopedic related surgeries had to travel to Jaffna or Vavuniya hospitals. With this new arrival, local residents have the opportunity to receive these medical services directly within their own district.

The event began with the reception of guests and the lighting of the oil lamp, after which the C-Arm machine was officially handed over to the hospital administration. Following this, a discussion was also held regarding the hospital’s future needs and ways to strengthen healthcare services.

Addressing the event, the Governor noted that Mullaitivu was severely affected during the final stage of the war, and many of its needs remain unmet even after 17 years. He stated that measures are being taken to fulfill the district’s requirements step-by-step.

He highlighted that Mullaitivu District General Hospital remains one of the most underdeveloped hospitals in the country. However, efforts to improve its condition have already begun. He emphasized that sustainable development in the district can only be achieved by advancing the healthcare and education sectors.

Appreciating the projects carried out by the “Abayam Foundation” across the Northern, Eastern, and Hill Country areas, the Governor expressed gratitude on behalf of the Northern public to expatriates who were born and educated locally and are now contributing a portion of their overseas earnings back to their homeland.

Pointing out the importance of the new C-Arm machine, he stated that it will significantly reduce the need for Mullaitivu residents to travel to other districts for this medical service. He added that rather than acquiring such equipment, it is essential to combine proper infrastructure and human resources to effectively upgrade the district’s healthcare service.

In this context, appreciation was extended to Abhayam Foundation, which donated the C-Arm machine valued at Rs. 28 million, and to the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, who took steps to allocate Rs. 4.2 million from the Provincial funds to cover the tax payable for bringing the machine to the hospital. Appreciation was also expressed to Dr. Prasathan, Orthopaedic Surgeon, who continuously worked with the Abhayam Foundation to facilitate the delivery of the machine to the hospital.

In the event presided over by the Director of the Mullaitivu District General Hospital, Dr. Nalin Premadasa, Chairman of “Abayam Foundation” K. Partheepan , Businessman V. Yoganathan who donated the C-Arm machine, Businessman Mangleswaran , Addl. District Secretary Jeyakanthan, Planning Director of Regional Health Services Office/ Mullaitivu Dr. S.
