Approval Granted to Fill All 66 Technical Officer Vacancies in the North- Hon. Governor

The annual gathering and service appreciation ceremony of the Northern Province Sri Lanka Technical Service Association was held yesterday evening, Saturday, 26th July 2025, at Divya Mahal near Nachimar Temple on K.K.S. Road. The Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, graced the event as the Chief Guest, while the retired Chief Secretary, L. Ilangovan, attended as the Special Guest.

In his chief guest address, the Governor remarked that many trade unions operate in the Northern Province, each representing a specific industry. He noted that some unions request meetings with him before going on strike. To these unions, he typically responds through his public relations officer, saying, “First, complete the strike, and then we will talk.”

However, he emphasized that this trade union is very different. From the very beginning, he was deeply impressed by their approach. He has often cited their example to other trade unions. While most unions prioritize the immediate interests of their members and make demands to secure benefits, he said, “Since your union first met me, you have prioritized the kind of assistance needed for your professional development.”

He further stated in his speech, “I am aware of the difficulties you are facing. Most of you are from Jaffna, and it is from here that you travel to other districts in the North to carry out your work. At the same time, 66 vacancies for various technical officer positions have been identified across the Northern Province. Just last week, we received approval to fill all of these vacancies.”

He added, “Moreover, technical services play a vital role in the field of construction. We sincerely appreciate the valuable service you provide to the people of our province.”
