The meeting between the Commander of the Jaffna District Security Forces, Major General K.T.P. De Silva, and the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, took place yesterday – on Monday 23 March 2026, in the evening at the Security Forces Headquarters in Palaly.
During the discussion, the Governor expressed his gratitude for the phased release of lands in the Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts that had been under the control of the security forces, for use by the general public. He also held detailed discussions with the Commander regarding the possibilities of releasing the remaining lands that are yet to be returned.
Furthermore, the Commander of the Jaffna District appreciated the recent discussions led by the Governor with members of the provincial education community on promoting the activities of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) among school students in the Northern Province. He pointed out that through participation in the National Cadet Corps, students would develop good habits, discipline, and strong leadership qualities from a young age.
Also present at this special meeting were Colonel W.M.A.M. Nissanka, Chief Coordinator for Civil Affairs at the Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters; S. Sathiyaseelan, Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province; and G. Dileepamuthan, Media Secretary to the Governor.
